Parking in the capital of Slovakia is a nightmare for many drivers. It is often difficult to park near the house, but also near work. One solution is a paid parking space or garage for rent. Where can you park for free in Bratislava and where is it better to use paid parking services?

The urgency of the parking problem has grown the most in recent years. The number of cars on the road has increased rapidly. This is mainly due to an improvement in the living standards of the population or a fall in car prices. What is the current situation with parking in Bratislava?

1. Free parking Bratislava

It is often almost impossible to park in Bratislava for free. Nevertheless, such places can be found on the outskirts of the city. However, the closer you are to the center, the harder it is to find a free parking space. This group includes shopping centers such as Eurovea at the Danube embankment, Headquarters at Trnavský mýto, Aupark in Petržalka or Vivo! in the part Bratislava - Nové mesto.

2. Residential parking Bratislava

Residential, in other words also regulated, parking in Bratislava has been operating since 2021. The aim of the project is primarily better parking at apartment buildings, less traffic jams and cars on the sidewalks. The city is also trying to get people to prefer public transport to individual cars.

You can park for free and without restrictions in the residential area only if you have a permanent residence there. Only holders of resident, visitor, bonus and subscription cards have access to them at specified times. To give you an idea, the resident card for the year costs 39 euros. If you do not live in the given zones, you can also use this parking at certain times. However, it is charged. You can obtain special parking tickets using SMS parking tickets or by purchasing them at parking machines.

Residential areas are not functional in the whole city, but only in the parts where there is the biggest problem with the surplus of vehicles. These include, for example, Bratislava - Petržalka, Bratislava - Staré mesto or Bratislava - Nové mesto.

Paid parking lots, the amount of which ranges from 1 to 4 euros per day, can be found on Uršulínská Street, Fajnorov Embankment, the car park at O. Nepel Elementary School or Kamenný námestí.
